I wasn't saying Summer Squall was out of a Drone mare.
But your right about Real Quiet he wasn't a Marquetry. And in my opinion his Sire may bring more staying power than the Mr. P. line.
As for Mr. P. well, 49er lost the derby..albeit barely. He won the Travers is my recollection over seeking the gold.
Seeking the gold won the Super derby.
Neither of those two really measured up to alysheba in the Classic.
But Mr. P. got the finest mares his whole career and he came up with precious little in regard to real stayers. What Mr. P. was a top handicap animal at 10 marks? He seemed to pass on fragility as well. I think the breed would have been better off without him.
But in the very end I think breeding is a bunch of horseshit. The only true indicator is the track and there's absolutely no basis to believe a stout sire matched with a speed mare is the formula to win the derby.
Now all things being equal...I'll look at breeding to separate two evenly matched animals. But half the time the breeding angle will lead you wrong there too.
