It turns out that the colorful former tire dealer twin Cajuns did not realize that the supplemental fee for Bonapaw was "only" the $90k required if a foal was not nominated, and not the $200k which has to be paid if the stallion was not nominated. How they would not know this until they received a call from BC officials on Mon, when it was very clearly pointed out in the 8/30-9/2 future pool materials & in a no. of articles,& even mentioned by a well known Latvian in a post on this Bd weeks ago, is beyond me. And you have to ask yourself why they wouldn't simply check themselves. Unless, of course, they knew what they were going to do all along & have a nice chunk of those juicy future book odds of 19-1. That interpretation could be seen as consistent with their statment at the very time the payment was being made that Bone is more suited to & they would rather run him in the Mile. I'm inclined to think that this episode was not staged but it, along with the one horse trainer, the odd training & massage regimen, etc., etc., does give one pause. The 3 Gr1s at Bel & 3 Gr2s at AP this weekend look like the contests which are most likely to impact the BC. Perhaps Macho can duplicate his Mass Cap win & he'll become a good bet against in a head-to-head against ROG. That way I'll be taking a stand against, what is it, Orientate's & Macho's 7-9 consecutive negative nos.?
