Changing Times?? (1395 Views)

My Google news feed keeps giving me stories about how Bob Baffert is holding more Derby contenders than ever before. The most recent story concerns the Los Alamitos Derby and how many times one of his trainees has won it.

So we all know he also dominates the Oaklawn Park Ky Derby preps except the first one (which he skips for whatever reason), he has tried the Wood a time or two without much success, so I got concerned when it occurred to me he may have to invade So. Florida and maybe Keeneland this year because he has so many horses that need points.

I see the Remsen winner (even with ?#) is rumored to be planning only two more starts prior to the derby (FOY & FL Derby). So here we are with a trend toward lightly racing derby contenders. Mostly avoiding top competitors until May then retirement. I'll guess BB uses the Dubai race before he tries the Tampa Bay, Florida or Louisiana Derbies. But the other SoCal trainers will be forced to.

However if his group stays healthy he may monopolize the whole triple crown prep circus and I don't think I like that. We have laws against monopolies because they are not considered healthy for their respective industries and I think that applies to horse racing also.

So the current and BRILLIANT points system segregates the sexes so no more Winning Colors I'm old and tired not the one to criticize the current system just prefer not to see one outfit dominant didn't like it with Pletcher, or Chad Brown on the turf, and Baffert the Derby trail.
