Damn that's some scenic countryside up there. The good ol boys hanging out by
the rail do not seem like they would have much patience for PETA.

One of the most powerful books one can read is "American Ground Zero: The
Secret Nuclear War", an extended photo essay about nuclear tests which were
conducted in Nevada in the middle of the 20th Century. The Atomic Energy
Commission chose Nevada because of its isolation and because, according to a top
secret AEC memo which was uncovered, the folks living near and downwind of
these tests were a "low use segment of the population" -- people living on
family ranches and farms, Mormons who would rarely if ever question the
activities of the federal government.

We as horseplayers are apparently a "low use segment of the population". How
does it feel knowing that we have been seeking transparency and a level playing
field for the last twenty or thirty years, but only when forces from outside
the industry/sport of horse racing get involved is action (ok, admittedly,
restricted use of Lasix and whips is window dressing) going to be taken?
