Yeah, the new timing system a lot of tracks switched to had issues. So we tightened up our own timing— making sure the run ups are right, and when our time doesn’t match track time also video timing so we have a tiebreaker to look at.

We did all that for the Champagne, and after that story came out I had someone retime several races that day, not just that one, for comparison. I’m happy with the time we used, which is closer to the original one they published.

But the time is not the issue with doing figures for that race. Two horses fired and the rest did not, which is very unusual for a graded stake, and that gives you limited data to work with. I marked the race for review, but a) there are only two horses that will matter in the review, b) there’s nothing I can do with it before they run back in the BC, and c) if they don’t fire there it could be because of the East-west ship.
