The Derby has horses of the same age, running the same distance, at the same track, at the same time every year. It is highly specific. We couldn’t even do what you’re suggesting for the Breeders Cup— we just do some much broader studies for those, as you can see in the BC seminars in the Archives.

The Thoro-Patterns found on individual sheets are the closest thing to what you describe, but to get large enough sample sizes we had to combine some patterns that aren’t really alike. They’re fine for beginners, but if someone has been using the data for a while we recommend making your own decisions and not relying on them.
