Next shot at Thorpedo Anna likely to come in the Grade I La Troienne May 2nd at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Apples day for Fillies!:
“We’ve kind of plotted this all along,” McPeek said. “I knew the spacing. He (jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.) really didn’t have to overwork on her yesterday. She knocked out the (feed) tub in 20 minutes last night. She’s good to go to come back up here.”
McPeek believes Thorpedo Anna, who opened her season with a win in the Grade 2 Azeri at Oaklawn, is a better filly this year than she was at 3.
“She’s definitely bigger and stronger than she was last year,” he said. “Her whole hindquarters filled out, bigger in the shoulder. She’s definitely carrying more weight than she carried as a 3-year-old.
“She’s gone from a girl to a woman.”
Seems Thorpedo is still running 1's and 2's for now though. The La Troienne is 8.5 furlongs, 4 year olds and up, Grade I. After that McPeek said he is eyeing the boys again. Ogden Phipps, Foster, Whitney and Jockey Club Gold Cup were mentioned. By the way a half sis to American Promise is aimed for the La Troienne as well! Something suggests American Promise has a better shot in the Derby.
Tappan did beat some decent horses in the Florida Derby.
Barring gate misfortune (draw or break), trip wise Tappan figures to be one of them to get first crack at the Derby pace horses (along with Cheatfort's non suicide horses)
The #7 in the attached race was inside and pacing with Tappan. Actually heading him until stopped by traffic during Tappan's strong outside move, but he caught Tappan in the midst of that strong move with no excuse and it was not debatable. The number 7 horse was not in the Florida Derby.

Anything can happen in the Kentucky Derby and if a good horse like Tappan gets a break or two, he can certainly win.
Last night in Hot Springs there was a Water Main Break. The Casino had to be shut down. The Arkansas Bureau of Investigation intervened and discovered the culprit and responsible party for the damage and track anomaly.
