I am reading a pretty good book now by Golf Course Designer Tom Fazio. He discusses his designs with pictures and explanations.
Fazio said it would be wrong to go in and tear down Pebble Beach or Augusta National and rebuild it. On the other hand, as he said, if you look at pictires of those two courses and compare them to say 75 years ago they dont look the same. They have changed and had to change with time
Tiger Woods may have won at Augusta on a course 400 yards longer Palmer or Nicklaus. With a slant on the front of that 15th green that I assure wasnt there before. Like 30 or 40 yeara ago. The PGA is now in May. "THATS NOT HOW IN WAS WHEN HOGAN DID IT" a Traditionalist roared....
Cy Young didnt need a Pitch Clock and at least 4 days rest. But the game and players do now. It comes down to the quality of the game. The Triple Crown can be modified. No one said stretch it out until September. It you want to grow the audience sometimes you have to change.
