Happy New Year Racing Fans!!
How does the Chicago Bears of Cicero sound moving ahead? Forget Arlington Heights, Indiana, or Downtown at a newly imagined Solider Field. I like Cicero. Always thought they had a beautiful setting and likely perfect for football don't ya think??
Out at Santa Anita, and I quote, racing in California is "magical" per the Fanduel TV folks. Meanwhile they have created an indoor sport when a half an inch of rain shuts 'em down. And Magical. . . Bay Meadows, Golden Gate, Hollywood All closed.
And at Gulfstream an agreement was reached and days were reduced significantly.
Contraction is happening before your eyes. The game isn't dead but to say it is on life support is fair to say as a nationwide industry. It can't stand on its own Four Feet and the current state of affairs when giving it a panoramic view suggests it is just a niche, subsidized industry with no vision for growth or long term sustainability beyond the upper crust geographies left in the game, namely Ky, Ark, NY.
Oh. . . And if you hit a big one this year or you make your living at this game, Uncle Sam is your new best friend. :)
