Singin', "This'll be the day that the game dies
This'll be the day that I die"
First off congrats to all winners, trainers, connections, etc yesterday. I came home from running multiple errands and my golf practice (Cabo in March) and turned on something I rarely see these days. Horse Racing.
I see a runner who has been out twice, both in Maiden races. Neither at a Route. And he is the favorite in a Late winter/very early Spring Graded 3YO Derby Prep race. The Forward Gal which is for the Kentucky Oaks Fillys SCREAMS if you can run on 80 Beyer you are the winner.
Sure enough the Forward Gal winner ran an 82 Beyer and dominated her field. Then in the Holy Bull Nearly was impressive and ran much faster winning that one. And both Trainers have declared they need at least two months off. Here today gone tomorrow
As much as we complain about the Odds switchs, CAW percentages and so on, which is all controlled by the Tracks, we have a Breed that can barely stand on its own two feet or is it 4 feet. We have a Breed that after a solid if not good 3YO filly who had not run in 60 days produces an 82 Beyer and now needs 60 days more of rest. I got tired typing that so I need 60 days rest....lol that was JOKE!!
They spent years and years breeding everyone to any kind of 4.5F Stallion they could find thinking prospective buyers want to get on the track asap and start making money. Now no one wants to even race at 2 or even race period. See my above example of 3YO. The shrinkage is OBVIOUS.
There are a lot of good people out there taking care of these horses every day doing the best they can. The last 2 minutes before someone hits the "make wager" button may seem like the only ones that matter. But do you bet as much on Maiden $5K Claimers as are you a Large Field Grade One? And in 20 more years when the Grade One types can barely crack a 90 Beyer and need 6 months off when they do, will the problem or disease that destroyed the game be the two last 2 minutes before you bet? Or the durability and stamina of the Breed that has been cast in the wind for Short Term Profits.....
