Took a fast glance at entries for Saturday and they have put together a good day. There are a couple of big chalks but the sunshine is free.
So you might be wondering what woke me up from hibernation and has me scanning PP's on a Wednesday? Early January the word from the Payson backstretch clockers was Chief Wallabee was the goods. And he ran like it. The Trackman for Thorograph nailed it with the 4 h?.
So Mott is now running him back in a Grade Two, 2nd time out. Somewhere in his grave the late D. Wayne Lukas is saying with palm extended "high five me Bill". Hey and these Owners are conservative too. I am stunned. But also intrigued.
The field pretty is tough with 3 or 4 in there who run 5's. Jackson Hole is slow. The Chad Summers runner is a tough read off just two starts but that 2 in the Champaign is legit. And it beats everyone in here. The Trainer did the right thing by stopping on him. He has early speed. Picks back up a send jockey. The dam is Atomic Blonde and anytime I get to think about the scene from that movie with Charlize Therion and Sofia Boutella. I smile
Actually I like Commandment. His grand sire loved this track and his dam sire burned the place up on the way to winning the Kentucky Derby. Cox has spaced these races out and is hitting at a 30% win clip. I expect him to improve but others will too. Chief Wallabee and Commandment are working similarly. And has the HOF Trainer who has Sovereignty and Baeza and Knightsbridge in his barn lost his freaking mind and become engulfed in Derby Fever? The answer is a very loud NO!!!! Toss at your own risk. But it is a tall ask.....
