Tomorrow is the last day of racing at Aqueduct - from Brooklyn we had to take the D train to the Franklin Avenue Shuttle (!), where you would get a paper transfer (this was the only SUBWAY transfer, buses used them all the time), walk a block under the elevated (this was some hostile territory) and climb up to the A train. Looking at it on the subway map didn't give us the whole story.

This was in the days of Pistol Pete, the Gas Man and Oscar Barrera, and there would be a decent sized crowd. Belmont was the country, Aqueduct was the CITY track. The last time I was there I was sad to see the whole "racino" thing but this is what it's come to. Looking forward to seeing what they've done at Belmont but THE BIG A deserves a farewell as my very first racetrack.
