Speaking of trainer micro-bursts, Horacio De Paz is 4/7 since the Saratoga meet started and has won his last three starts there over the weekend. He has Bakuto (15/1) in race 2 on Thursday. Debut was pretty good and he stacks up well in the field TG numbers wise. Off a bit awkwardly, he rushed up and engaged the leader on the turn while three wide. He was also a bit green in the stretch and ducked in some. Bakuto understandably got a bit tired and finished second. Next out was three weeks later, he again broke a bit tardily this time from the rail and did not put in the same effort as in his debut. Maybe it was just too much too soon. Since then, he has been given some time to mature as he has been in steady training since that race. Now he comes back from a three-month layoff with blinkers, which hits at 23% for De Paz. Jaime Rodriguez takes over the mount (currently tied for 5th in wins so far this meet), and he is going to show speed from the rail going a mile where the only other horse that has shown speed that is entered did so in his debut on the grass and that form may not directly transfer to the main. Seems like an interesting play on a horse that will likely be leading the field turning for home at double digit odds. I will certainly use him in the P5.
