Gary this situation I presented is much more complicated than that. Due not Done may be the case but???
I spent the early part of my career as a CPA but transition to Head of Finance for multiple companies. One of my skills was being very Analytical.
Pletcher is a professional and class act. His barn works hard. Baffert can be too. If they are good it can be good for the game. They are known and visible. BUT!!!
Baffert when had that most recent positive (see how I wrote that "Most Recent") lost a LOT of Owners. I know the 2 year Derby ban was a big reason but people who had moved in moved out. Winstar. Stonestreet. Spendthrift. Is Juddemonte still around? Now that the ban has been lifted are all those people moving back? NO!!!
Pletcher because of the Forte positive is experiencing slippage. They kicked and screamed (including some of the Owners) but inevitably the suspension was served. News of the positive was buried for months. It was not pretty.
There are Owners out there who are trying to take a stand. And if they say it but then back a Trainer who has a criminal record of over medicating his horses and affecting the outcome of regulated pari-mutual wagering events what does it say about them? Many are taking that to heart and moving on. His stock or total barn talent is way down. Same with Baffert. Notice I said TOTAL, not that they don't have a few really good horses. Golden Tempo was part owed by St Elias. That was always Pletcher. But the other owner was Phipps. Phipps is not giving horses to Baffert or Pletcher. And these trends will continue. As it should. The Game needs Integrity!
