Amoss & Romans (980 Views)

Tom Amoss and Dale Romans did a video piece on Horse Racing Nation <--- link on Thursday.

It is kind of long winded and whatever insight to be gleaned is subtle. Some points I noticed that were surprising.

1. Romans expects Brody's cause to be the third betting choice. Seems to think he has a good hand. My Man Sam is on his radar.

2. Tom Amoss gushing over Mo Tom's turn of foot. The best of any horse he has ever trained. (Hope we get to see some of it.) But considers the horse over hyped in La.

3. They were in the dark about O'Neils training of Nyquist but defer to his expertise claiming it worked previously and they may ask him for an explanation?

4. Both trainers want the field strung out such that traffic problems are minimized. Even 25 lengths back OK for Amoss? Roman's saying a fast pace can take the punch out of deep closers if they don't pay attention.

5. Unexpected speed always shows up in the Derby. A surprise horse will be forwardly placed.

6. They keep it simple, i.e. we're ready to go tomorrow! training good and horse never better. Not much said about Tom's Ready.

Either would be hard to have much of a handicapping discussion with IMO. Respectful of Asmussen as a horseman should have made HOF last year.
