A Few Kee Thoughts, Even Fewer AQ Thoughts (1499 Views)

A schmorgasboard of wagering opportunities cross country today (in addition
to an interesting day of televised golf), with the emphasis on "gas" as my
rumbling stomach reminds me that Staten Island street food slingers have not
quite caught up to their Manhattan counterparts.
Lets start at Lexington where they have assembled what looks to me to be an
outstanding betting card beginning with Race 6, the Commonwealth, which
kicks off both (all stakes) P5 and the P6, neither of which I will probably
play. But to kick off a .50 P3, I want to allow myself to get cut off at the
knees quickly by tossing likely heavy fave AP Indian, thinking he might not be
all the way wound up for his 7YO debut. I will spread widely here and hope that
API and Limo Liberal, who has run some outstanding races locally, will not be
ready for their seasonal debuts after having last raced in the BC Sprint.
Race 7, the Shakertown, is a good race to watch because it will likely produce
some runners for the turf sprint which is run at 5 furlongs on Derby Day. Will
key on the four turf sprint specialists in here (Green Mask, Mongolian
Saturday, Hogy and Partly Mocha). I am on the fence about using Rainbow Heir,
who has flashed turf sprint talent in his only four grass starts.
Race 8, the Madison, I will try to exclude two more shorter priced runners.
Clothes Fall Off came into this race last year off the same two preps (with the
same two TG numbers) as she has run this year and ran a stinker, toss. Likely
favorite Paulasilverlining, purchased by Juddmonte to eventually join
Arrogate's harem, is probably fastest here TG # wise, but has not hung up her
best numbers in her three races outside of NYRA tracks. The one I like here is
Kathballu, who has numbers which are only borderline competitive, but 12/1 ML
is too high on the only entrant who has a local win, has won three of her last
four starts and has done well at this distance.
Spread like Jiff R6 P3: 1,2,3,4,7,9/3,6,7,8/1,3,4,5 = $48
Chunky Jiff: 1,2,3,4,5,7,9/2,3,6,7,8/1,3,4,5 = $70.
One or the other.
Other Kee races: Ashland: Mott's Elate has much upside and goes back to Ortiz.
Pretty City Dancer arguably fastest here, Casse gets rid of the blinkers and
the Leper, but will leg up Rosario, who noted handicapper F. Gump once told me
is "like a box of chocolates... you never know what you are going to get".
Blue Grass: No surprises.
Race 11: Lido a big # edge for KMac, Rosario again in a big field. Liking Red
Dane (LoPresti/Calumet first time turf with all the breeding), Brian Lynch's
firster (Lynch good first out past a mile) and Barclay Tagg's second timer who
is sibling to two grass SWs.
