Two-time horse of the year Cigar shocked the racing world today with his admission that he used performance-enhancing steroids during most of his illustrious racing career. "With all the controversy swirling around steroid use in baseball, I thought it was about time I come clean", said Cigar thru the use of an equine translator.
"I was a so-so horse until a vet came to me and suggested I try them. Next thing you know I've put together a record string of victories and become a national celebrity. But then came the repercussions," he continued. "My infertility was highly publicized, but not given much explanation. It's pretty clear to see that it came as a result of the steroid use."
Cigar went on to allege that as many as 50% of horses racing today use some kind of steroid treatment. "And some trainers, it's 100% of their horses, I bet you might be able to guess who they are," he added.
A hall-of-fame trainer who asked to remain nameless agreed with Cigar. "Yeah, it's a big problem. Trainers try to downplay and cover-up all the time. I first became aware of rampant use in our sport when I noticed that Serena's Song had grown a mustache." When asked about Cigar's record he added, "I always thought that bastard was cheating somehow."
Cigar closed him comments by suggesting that moisture calculations should be a large part of performance figure making and that track surfaces vary greatly from race to race during the same day.
