entire $1000 must be bet --- leftovers are lost.

I just thought of something for the scratches:
maybe you want to designate a 'scratch race' --- all the money from scratches in other races would be funneled into this 'scratch' race and bet proportionately, according to how you already bet the race.
(you'd probably want to designate the race you like best)
now, if scratches in the 'scratch' race leave you w/no play there, I guess you're screwed, unless you want to designate an 'alternate scratch race', but I don't know how involved you want to get w/this.
