Handicapping is a lifetime learning experience if approached with an objectivity and the purpose of red boarding yesterdays Travers is a perfect example. I have aways believed that the best way to make money on betting developing 3 year olds is to not be afraid to bet horses who are slower going in but have patterns suggesting they will move forward. Recognizing that moving forward does not necessarily mean moving forward enough, you are often well rewarded when correct. When I stopped by at the deck I thought the bomb that fell into that category was Charge now.He had run a 3 1/2 second out a GP and after 2 small backward moves (off poorly in both) ran a 3 in his previous race. He figured to like the distance and a breakthrough to a new top at big odds made him a play for me. I missed-totally-te obvious pattern on VE Day--never bounced-worked his way down to a 3-first time on dry dirt track-and had run a visually impressive race in the Curling. If I was betting Charge Now to move forward why on the world would I not bet VEDay to do the same. All the criticism of the rides given by the Tonalist and wicked strong--stuff happens like that all the time in long distance grade 1 races-yesterday was a good handicapping lesson. Best of luck to all for rest of meet.
