Lankan Ruppee, has been called the best turf sprinter in training today! The 5 y/o gelding went in the McKewen Stakes last night in Australia. The crowd made him the 1/4 favorite.
1/4 ? Well he had not raced since 4/12/2014 and the Aussies like to race them into condition. His last race in April was his 6th win in a row 7 of his last 8 while the last three were Group 1's. His last was a cool 2.4 million $ race. Even in AUS $'s that a lot of Fosters.
So I selected the #9 Eloping (Beat down from m/l 12/1 to 6/1) who had excellent early speed and was getting 18 lbs, to run second and the #6 Cauthen @15/1 to run third. probably would have been a 35/1 tri. So my #9 follows Lankan Ruppee across the line after dueling with him the entire 5F.
But ... Angelic Light, a 5 y/o mare who has made a career out of running 2nd or 3rd vs lesser flashes by both in the last 50 yds to win @ 22/1 and key a 57/1 exacta and a 168/1 trifecta.
A lot of fun for $1. KD should also be a lot of fun tomorrow.
