Phil:
I have had limited experience with HRTV. The presence of Millie Ball just
proves that we Americans think that anyone with an English accent needs to be
paid attention to when it comes to golf or horse racing. (I am as guilty as
anyone, I guess. As a young golf fan, I hung on Henry Longhurst's every thickly
accented word.)
Someone made the point that Television Games Network is named so there is no
real permanent connection with horse racing. The TVG "experts" have already
started a segment concerning fantasy sports (ie "FanDuel" and the like); a
great deal of advertising on TVG touts Betfair's online casino wagering. The
point seems to be that with the increasing popularity of fantasy sports, the
launch of online casino wagering and the inevitable arrival of legalized sports
wagering (possibly in time to rescue Monmouth Park?), combined with the
continued "shrinkage" of thoroughbred racing [sup]*[/sup], TVG has positioned
itself to "pivot away" from thoroughbred racing when the time is right, no name
change and only minor rebranding necessary.

Whether these are tracks you attend or bet on, there is no assurance that a
single race will ever be run at Suffolk, Colonial or Atlantic City in the near
or distant future.
