JB:
It is an ifamnia that you would mention the inexplicable and imminently
forgettable GF 3 in the same sentence with the two classics.
Speaking of organized crime/New York/racetrack themed movies, one of my favorites is
"Pope of Greenwich Village", with racetrack footage from both Monmouth and Tampa Bay
Downs. Paulie (Eric Roberts) has some interesting theories about thoroughbred
breeding, and grumbles that his partner in horse ownership has selected silks which
will make the jockey look like "some fag partying out on Fire Island...". Paulie's
description of how to leave a party after being angered by a wife or girlfriend is
rather memorable, snarling to the imaginary girl "you get your coat on fast and you
don't say goodnight to nobody".
Geraldine Page had a couple of short scenes which were powerful enough to result
in an Oscar nomination, and Darryl Hannah, as usual, was tall, blonde and wooden.
I think the general unpopularity of Mickey Rourke and Roberts has prevented this
movie from being viewed by more people.
