Yep - as I recall, Ingrid gave Cary a hot tip about a horse they had been holding back that was a sure thing, but either Cary didn’t believe in tips or he preferred to do his own handicapping, because he made no attempt to run to the windows to get a bet down on the horse.
By the way, there was another interesting parallel between the movie and the Asmussen/PETA saga.
According to Hitchcock, he and screenwriter Ben Hecht came up with the idea to use uranium as the script’s MacGuffin in 1944, a year before the world became aware of the atomic bomb. Hitch found himself under the surveillance of several government agents who were far less glamorous than Grant or Bergman.
With the FBI eventually satisfied no government secrets were compromised (apparently they got the idea from an article about uranium and from a writer friend who told them of the Germans conducting undercover experiments in Norway), no harm was done to the The Master of Suspense's reputation.
It remains to be seen if the same holds true for Asmussen..
