I do not know anything about Miguel Mena. However, I just watched all 3 New Orleans prep races, and Mena REFUSES to leave the rail in the 2nd turn. Knowing that he does not have the fastest horse - I am sure he will not leave the rail in the derby.

The Lecomte is an extreme example of staying inside.
The Risen Star it looks like he is steadied a bit on the turn, but he will not leave rail.
La Derby they just give him the rail.
