AP shows up well enough. A lot of traveling, accomplishment and a huge fan base precedes his Spa arrival. He catches a pace less crowd most of them outclassed and well handled previously; some repeatedly, and does not win at 35 cents on the dollar.
For my two cents, the lip chain to the pony, the dead rail theory and for the pace theorists using the "comfortable" half mile time is void of merit. Perhaps one percent of horses enjoy the trip the PON sophomore colt got and none of them have run an internal split in 1:10 and change, in G1 packing big weight!
Was it a kamikaze ride by the boy? You betcha! No greater worldwide archrival's than the connections, and the F. L. Bailey comments from the normally cogent, straight forward conditioner were as defensive as an Irishman rolling up his sleeves in a Dublin pub!
Not to knock the winner but he is fifty-fifty to ever win again.
Baffert enjoying this one and hope he can piece this puzzle together and get AP to Keeneland, get the the ridiculous insurance premium paid and resist another offer to retire "now" from Coolmore. Training up to the race has its pitfalls but this one has not worked in company in months, has a brilliant gate and a great mind and perhaps we have not seen his best;yet! bbb
