Not be a dead horse but here goes (yes pun intended), the following are of course raw unadjusted times but do a give a general sense that historically the Travers is not kind to very sharp fractions including internal ones. AP's raw mile of 1:35.08 would have tied for the fastest ever by the leader and eventual winner. Per the 2014 Media Guide NYRA.com

FASTEST FRACTIONAL AND FINAL TIMES
Since 1901, few horses that have set the fastest early fractions have won the Travers. Holy Bull, who ran the second-fastest quarter ever
(:22 4/5), went on to win the 1994 Travers. Natchez, who ran the third-fastest quarter ever (:23) won in 1946, as did Willow Hour in 1981,
who also ran the quarter in :23.
Horses who set the fastest half-mile times all faded in the Travers, but three that set the fastest six-furlong fractions won. In 1920, Travers
winner Man o’ War ran the three-quarters in 1:10 (the second-fastest ever). In 1976, Honest Pleasure set a six-furlong time of 1:10 2/5,
ran the mile in 1:35 (still the fastest Travers mile) and won in a then-record 2:00 1/5. In 1994, Holy Bull also ran the first six furlongs in
1:10 2/5 before winning the 125th edition of the Midsummer Derby in 2:02.
In 1979, General Assembly lowered Honest Pleasure’s record by 1/5 second. His record of 2:00 for the 1 1/4 miles still stands, giving
trainer LeRoy Jolley the distinction of training the two fastest Travers winners.
