Re: graveyard of favorites? (407 Views)

I was there the past few days as well. I go every year and as much as I enjoy the town, atmosphere and everything that goes with it, I am becoming disgusted by the racing. Not just because I lost, because I actually broke even for the weekend, but the number of winning favorites seems to be getting worse every year. On Saturday, there were 7 favorites, 1 second choice and 2 "price horses. On Sunday, favorites won the first 6 races. Yesterday, favorites won 6 of the first 7 races. Even favorites that don't look good or look beaten, are finding a way to win. Afleet Alex for example, was running sideways, almost across the track in the stretch, while the T-Graph pick (and my bet) seemingly were going to win. Afleet Alex suddenly straightens out and closes fast to win. Ahpo Here in the 2nd race yesterday was as bad of an 8-5 shot as I have seen and looked beaten at the top of the stretch, but somehow won. The Penny Drops in the 5th yesterday was a miserable underlay at 9-5 and also never looked like a winner, until the final jump. Carminooch was a $5,000 purchase, by a bunch of Hollywood actors that was overhyped and I figured was an unbelievable underlay at 4-5. Easy winner.

A miserable day on the T-Graph analysis, but I can't blame T-Graph when the favorites win every race. No successful bettor is looking for 70% winning favorites.
