In the two weeks since Russia attacked Ukraine, more than 1.6 million Ukrainians have crossed into Poland but so far there are no refugee camps in Poland. Instead, Poles began mobilising from the very first days of the war to receive refugees, with thousands offering rooms in their homes, while others drove to the border to pick up Ukrainian families, cooked warm meals or collected medical supplies.

According to the UN refugee agency, children represent around half of the more than two million people that have fled the crisis in Ukraine, becoming the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War.

In order to help, the Association of Polish Journalists (SDP) decided to share Journalist House facilities, which has been converted to a shelter for Ukrainian children and their care workers fleeing Russia's invasion.

Currently, there are 140 refugees, including 93 children. 60 of them are kids from the Orphanage in Mariupol, the remaining children came with their mothers or relatives. There are also 11 deaf people among the refugees.

The Association of Polish Journalists provides accommodation in double and triple rooms and full board. The local community is participating in the collection of items for refugees, but the needs are immense and our support is needed.

The Association of Polish Journalists has launched a special account, you can transfer funds to, and support war refugees:
