I like to have something to look at (read) when I have breakfast or lunch. I keep different periodicals around for that purpose.

My go to is the Bloodhorse Stallion Register. I will "cut the cards" so to speak and look at the stallion it falls upon. Sometimes I learn something like - Into Mischief is free of Mr Prospector.

Today I cut to Daredevil. You have to wonder how the people at Lane's End feel about bringing the son of More Than Ready back from Turkey.

He caught lightening in a bottle with that first crop. A lot of stallions do. I just "cut the deck" and came upon Midnight Lute. His first crop saw him getting 10% SW from 111 foals. The next 9 years by percentage of SW were nowhere near. He is now where many stallions settle in, at 5% lifetime.

Daredevil made five starts. That in itself isn't defining, but I prefer a real record of achievement. He retired to Winstar in 2016 with a fee of $12,500 for his first two seasons, later for $7,500 in 2018 & 19. Then he went to Turkey.

When Shesharesthedevil won the KY Oaks and Swiss Skydiver the Preakness in 2020, there had to be some seller's remorse. These two are from his first crop. "What have we done?" was probably the thinking.

Looking at the numbers, I am reminded of Bodemeister, who got those two big horses Always Dreaming and American Anthem in his first crop. It didn't go so well after that, and he was also sold to Turkey.

I might be overstating the case. Maybe he (Daredevil) comes back around. It would be great to have More Than Ready continue his sire line. Verrazano had a chance, but didn't really do much and now stands in Brazil. Catholic Boy is next in line, here's hoping.

I was gonna put forth numbers about how meager his runners are outside of the two big fillies, but you get the idea. Who in his right mind would pay $25k to get to him?
