I knew he was real good when I saw him win inspite of a Six Wide Trip from Bailey on Ky Oaks Day. He may have been as consistently wide through-out the race as any horse I have ever seen. No Joke
He will be tough on BC Day but these wide no traffic trips he has been getting may not be in the cards that day or certainly so much the best that he can still win. I also disagree with Watchmakers premise that the 3 Year Old Title should go to only horses who competed in the Triple Crown or big races thereafter. I didn't realize the award was restricted, perhaps they should put an R in front of it, or at least on the Trophy.
However, he is a smart guy and as long as Steve Christ(sic) puts him in front of typewriter he is entitled to his opinion.
I was at Santa Anita the on the BC Day when Manilla got up. It was one of those "Game Performances" that ranks right up there with Alysheba's Derby win, John Henry over The Bart in the Million. Santos aboard Manilla dropped the whip at the eighth pole and Stevens and Toro tried to put the ultimate hose job on him down the stretch.
Durkins call of "There goes Estrapade" still is ringing in my ears.
