Michael passed away Monday after an undisclosed illness.
Along with Thorograph, Michael's books were a large part of my handicapping journey.
Though his methodology was different than TG, his strategy was similar. Find horses that you like, that the public doesn't.
This was written about him from one of his friends......
"His life accomplishments read like a hero of fiction, something out of another time, and indeed he was. The term ‘Renaissance Man’ is a totally foreign concept in our current declining world but that is what he was.
Columbia University, Columbia Law, Wall Street lawyer, acted off Broadway and was a David Copperfield/’Lance Burton class magician (ergo the genesis of the title ‘Handicapping Magic’). And what, a 2-handicap golfer too? He could have done any of those things and excelled.
Yet he loved horse racing most of all, to all of our benefit."
I had the pleasure to meet Michael, and can say he was an absolute gentleman. Gracious and generous with his time. Along with TG I have used his methodologies to win a buck or 2 at the track.
The horse racing world lost a good one. RIP Michael
