Did GHOSTZAPPER run his worst race of the year?
Did he react by 8 lengths [!] from his last and STILL win?
GHOSTZAPPER scraped paint on the rail throughout while
ROSES IN MAY was a path outside him all the way around.
It's not unreasonable to think, at least at first glance, that
ROSES IN MAY ran his 4th consecutive -1.5 in yesterday's
Classic. [The prototypical no-bounce steroid line.] The chart
says he was beaten 3 lengths by the winner. Thus, if a point
difference "equates" to two lengths difference on the track at
1 1/4 miles, then GHOSTZAPPER likely ran only slightly better
than RIM. A -2 or thereabouts? That's his WORST race of the
year by far.
The rail helped the winner. [A scenario whereby post positions
would have been reversed - that is, GHOSTZAPPER hung out
in PLEASANTLY PERFECT's wide post - would have been
an interesting scenario. Especially with an op- to overcome.
It should also be noted [correct me if I'm wrong] that, like this
year, Frankel had a horrid Breeder's Cup last year in 2003
EXCEPT for the BC Classic where MEDAGLIA D'ORO ran
well [but was unsuccessful.]
