Two track records were set on Breeders Cup Day. One in the Distaff, when the track was rated "Good", the other in the Classic with a "Fast" rating.

The track condition changed from Good to Fast for the Juv. Fillies. By all appearances Sweet Catomine would have won the Distaff if she was entered, having earned a faster T-Fig than Ashado, but others in the Distaff earned even better with wides. 1's and 2's use to be unheard of with 2 yr olds. They were able to run them last Saturday.

The second and third choices in the Classic, (Pleasantly Perfect and Birdstone), were both discovered post race to have injuries which ended their careers. The fourth choice (Funny Cide) found trouble made a menacing move at a mile and then caved. The fifth choice was RIM. The sixth choice Perfect Dread was having a less than stellar year, but finished admirably against Pleasantly Perfect.
Its possible Pleasantly Perfect ran through his injury and ran a near top. Its also possible that Pleasantly Perfect's effort was impacted by the injury he was discovered to have sustained and that Perfect Dread's typical one length in arrears finish to P.P. was a little less than it seems.
One problem with hashing this out is that theres no 10 mark history to judge this all upon and the Distaff time looks pedestrian to me compared to the Juvenile times. The track record for 10 marks was 2:04. The mile record by "Isitingood" is 1:34:44. They all ran within about a second of the record set by a top flite miler. Its possible the track was speeding up and that Sweet Catomine was a beneficiary of that. Bottom line is that I think the strip was very fast when the track went to "Fast" and perhaps wicked by the Classic.
I'd defer to Jerry's imput upon it. I know little about Lone Star and hope Texas never receives another Cup again.
