The Jockeys' Guild extended the employment contract of the Guild's chief executive, L. Wayne Gertmenian, until 2009.

In other news, unnamed racing officials confirmed the appointments of J.T. Lundy to the Kentucky HBPA, former jockey Patrick Valenzuela to direct the newly founded Horseman's Awarness and Intervention Registry (H.A.I.R) to help jockeys and backstretch workers overcome drug addiction and Chris Harn as Mutuel Director of the NYRA.
