Today's NY Daily News-- this is the Sunday edition of a very big paper-- devotes it's lead editorial to demanding NYRA lose it's franchise before it is supposed to run out in 2007. I don't have it in front of me, but they said New York racing was "crawling with race-fixing mobsters".

This appears to be more of the well conceived plan that others have discussed here before (big name lobbyists etc.) to bring down NYRA. To anyone who doesn't know any better it reads as pretty damning stuff, and you will only see it in the News-- Murdoch owns the Post and also a major stake in TVG, which has a deal with NYRA, and the Times is too responsible to go off half-cocked with lowest-common-denominator muckraking.
