One handicapping contest for one player is like one game out of a baseball season for one player-- there is a lot of randomness involved. But when you increase the sample size to a larger number of players and contests, the results become more interesting, and meaningful. With only the top 20 finishers of the NTRA contest listed so far, this is what we know:
-- For the third year in a row, the winner used Thoro-Graph. Wolfson in 2003, Meyer in 2004, Michelson this year.
-- The NTRA contest is one that you have to qualify for, in another contest-- you can't just buy your way in. Twenty Eight (28) people with on-line TG accounts qualified, of which 25 used our data in this contest, as far as we know, although all did not take us up on the free sheets deal for whatever reason. That 25 represents about 12% of all the qualifiers, and when you consider that only maybe 1 or 2 percent of those attempting to qualify used our data, that's amazing.
--Those 12% supplied 6 of the top 20, or 30%. Don't have exact figures for last year, when 15 TG account holders qualified, but two of our guys finished 1-2.
-- One of the members of the winners in the team competition used TG. Last year two members did. And finally, first day prize winner Bill Shurman did as well.
