"Visitors wandering around the barns at Santa Anita this week could be forgiven for thinking they are extras in an episode of Big Brother after the recent installation of over 1,000 security cameras to enhance integrity issues.

Connecting roads, shedrows and individual stables are all under the microscope in a scheme designed to keep images of everyone who enters a stable - and what they do once in there - for 30 days on digital recorders.

California Horse racing Board chairman Keith Brackpool stressed the need for "the continued safety of almost 2,000 horses living in our stable area while maintaining the highest standards of transparency."
