Below are the career Derby starters for Lukas. I'm not saying they are accurate. I compile these lists myself to keep track of big race performance. I think theres a patently palpable trend. Lukas has not been very good for about 5 years. Even with Proud Citizen he busted on him so hard he did him in. I don't think its coincidence that during this dry spell other trainers have gotten horses to flat out fly. I always believed Lukas was juicing, but i'm convinced he was out of the loop on the latest scams. I'm not so sure hes out of the loop any longer.

Lukas has had 41 Kentucky Derby Starters and has managed to win the race at a clip of just under 10% winners to starters. He's also had 10 starters finish in the money for a in the money finishing percentage of just under 25%. Considering the excessive number of starters thats not all bad. Also but for Winning Colors wire job, he has won the race 3 times in years where he entered multiple starters. A bad trip can kill you in this race and multiple entries are surely a hedge against the best horse not always winning for a numbers cruncher like Lukas.

Lukas tailored his program for the T.V. races. How many of his huge number of Juvenile Winners on B.C. Day panned out to more than good photo ops to sign up new owners? With his style, Lukas needs lots of owners.

Below are the Wood man's Derby starters. In his 40 year plus career as a trainer be brought 14 horses to Churchill Downs. He won with 2 of them for over a 14% winning clip. His in the money percentage was 57%. The last horse he brought to the Derby was the one nosed in 1988 by the inferior Winning Colors. The subsquent races those respective horses ran shed some light on which was best.

It's blasphemy to mention Lukas in the same breath as Woodford C. Stevens. One was a horseman. One is not.
