So I just got a look at the latest "sheet connected" stake win, which I found out about due to Friedman's crowing on the Ragozin board. Grand Appointment won a 40k claimer at 4/5 by 3 lengths for Mullins, who then dropped him to 32k (!!), where he went off at 4/5 again. Good thing O'Neill was looking at sheets (if indeed he was), otherwise who could possibly figure out he was worth the 32k.
The stake he won, by the way, was a rained off the turf Cal Bred affair. O'Neill gets credit for figuring out the race might be rained off and that the horse fit, which the public did too (9/2).
My two questions are a) how many others shook for the horse, and were they using sheets, and b) what made O'Neill think he could get the same level of performance as Mullins? Hmmm...
