Shamardal has been the subject on Monday of an informed ante-post gamble for the Kentucky Derby.

It has prompted Coral to cut him to 8/1 co-favourite of four from 12/1 for the race.

"The source of these bets on Shamardal would suggest that not only is he expected to win Saturday's UAE Derby but that he is also well fancied to realise Godolphin's long held ambition of winning the Kentucky Derby," said Coral spokesman Simon Clare.

The unbeaten three-year-old was last seen on the racetrack winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.
