You can always get lucky. Its hard to say you got lucky when you lose, but I did not and have not liked Sweet Cat.
She had a shoe issue. Her trainer stated it was nothing, but she definitely kicked it off and they jogged her in guaze rather than reshoe her for a gallop and change all her shoes the very next day when the blacksmith was scheduled to arrive. Did that make sense to anybody? Why not call the Blacksmith in. Change the shoe schedule. Pay him a one day premium. This was a Derby horse right?
Did anyone hear any rumors about her being off in her last work? and if not did anyone think Canani was higher strung than usual? Routine is important in horseracing at the highest levels. Sweet Cat was already out of her routine just to face the boys.
Lastly is a 1 always a 1? Is it a 1 irrespective of pace and class? What about a 1 on the most capricious of surfaces? Oh sure, she came back to it right? Can a big effort turn a horse back? Can a horse start to come unglued on it?
I dont even think this filly is the best filly, but there was no way she was set to pair.
