With apologies to any reading this, I will be citing two separate articles from two separate publications below. Excerpts are given in quotes, followed by some comment. It is difficult to tell which is the quote and which is the comment, as I am unable to change the fonts to make it clearer.

Following is an article posted by Delmar Deb regarding the
shenanigans of Wygod, Canini,et al, in the SA Derby, I e-mailed the reporter, Mr.Sullivan. He replied within minutes, we traded several exchanges. The following are excerpts from those exchanges.

" Thanks for your kind message. I'm no expert on horse racing, but I've been around long enough to tell when something simply doesn't smell right.

The good news is that the concerns raised in several newspapers this morning has sparked state regulators to take a harder look at the situation.I'm hopeful this may lead to some reforms."

Thanks again. If you or your associates have specific concerns I should be aware of, please pass them along. I don't know when I will have the opportunity to address these issues again, but it's a battle worth waging.

Best wishes,
Tim Sullivan

Mr. Sullivan welcomes your e-mails about racing concerns.

The second article.

Below is an excerpt from a article in Bloodhorse regarding the midnight ride of Sweet Cat, written by "Bloodhorse Staff," and posted by Caradoc:

"CHRB commissioner Richard Shapiro said, "The California Horse Racing board believes that everything concerning racing should be as transparent aspossible to the public. The board intends to look into security measures for horses entering and leaving the stable area, so that we are fully aware of who is coming and going. This will include the possibility of implanting microchips for the accurate and safe identification of horses racing in California.'"

Comment:

If Mr.Shapiro is serious about "everything concerning racing should be transparent...", that is a mighty high callin'. Whether he can actually impact the visibility of the "backside" or not, it's nice to hear someone in a position of authority say it.
******************************************************

Regardless, both Tim Sullivan of the Union Tribune and the Bloodhorse would welcome e-mailed concerns from any of us, with responsible comment about what's happening (or not happening)with our sport. raz
