Monday:

Showing an affinity for the Churchill surface, Sort It Out (Out of Place) zipped a half-mile in :47 1/5. One of the most experienced horses in the Derby field with 12 career starts, Sort It Out has four wins, including the Whirlaway at Aqueduct, for trainer Bob Baffert.

Sunday:

Privman:

Bellamy Road was the most visually impressive of Sunday's workers. He went off smoothly and set even fractions before storming through the final quarter-mile in less than 24 seconds to be timed in 1:00.42 for five furlongs on the fast main track, according the time recorded by Mike Welsch of Daily Racing Form. Bellamy Road also galloped out powerfully, completing seven furlongs in 1:27.86 and looking as though 1 1/4 miles is well within his grasp.

Now for the debate.

Steve Haskin:

The Churchill clockers got him (Bellamania) going the five furlongs in 1:00 2/5. I had him off the video in 1:00 flat (two private clockers got him in 1:00 1/5), galloping out a strong six furlongs in 1:13 3/5, then pulling up seven furlongs in 1:27 3/5. He was still on the move passing the five-eighths pole in 1:44 3/5 for the mile. Correa finally (Note the use of the term FINALLY) was able to pull him up near the half-mile pole.

Evan Hammonds:

Going out on the track early, Kinsman Stable's Bellamy Road zipped five furlongs in :59 3/5. Also out for some early exercise was Len Riggio's My Meadowview Farm's Noble Causeway, who got five furlongs in 1:00 flat. Going out to the track just after the break, Live Oak Plantation's High Fly went five furlongs in 1:00 2/5.

Zito:

"There's been so much talk about he (Bellamania) won't rate or this or that, so at least this last work, and the work before, at least shows us some indication that maybe he will. I think he will. If you watched the work, he sure looks like it. But you never know when the gates open up. Racing is different."

Bellamy Road's previous work was a five-furlong move in 1:02 4/5 April 21.

Discussion:

1st off we have three different reported times for Bellamania's last workout:

59.3
1.00
1.00.2

Thats almost a full second difference, what gives? What horse were you looking at Mr. Hammonds, Going Wild perhaps?

Do you think that Zito sounds awfully similar to the comments he made about Civlizator or whoever that undefeated N.Y. Bred was. Does he sound like hes wishing and hoping (regarding rating) more than knowing? I think so. Does anyone wonder if that dull work April 21, was dull on previous effort?

And what about Privman's comments that 10 marks looks well within Bellamania's range upon that last workout. What inspired him? The 1.28 seven furlong time or the 16 second last eighth in 1.44.3? Anyone want to bet that Privman still has Wood sugar plum faeries dancing in his subconcious?

Ut Oh!
