He ran quarters like this:
24.78 23.44 24.33 24.55 25.65
Closing Argument
22.70 23.80 23.93 25.51 26.91
Afleet Alex
23.54 23.52 23.51 25.49 26.89
Bellamy
22.58 23.52 23.93 25.87 28.20
Closing Argument wins the race if he doesn't have to use his horse in the first quarter to get position from the 18.I didn't see the post draw so I don't know if he had a choice.I'm assuming he didn't.
Afleet Alex might have been put into the race too early. In his Ark Derby he relaxed along his first 3 quarters (23.85 24.58 24.17)and exploded late.I don't like him in Baltimore.
Bellamys first quarter was too quick, but he really fell apart late.He bounced to the moon.He looked good on the track and wasn't sweating so the atmosphere didn't make him fall apart like Bandini who was done before they even put the saddle on him.His splits in the Wood were 23.13
22.95 23.76 24.57 maybe 25.14 if he went another 1/8th.I suspect it was his Wood that did him in not the rabbits.
Question is how will he bounce back in Baltimore.-5,huge bounce, ???
Zito should do everything he can to keep High Fly out of the Preakness. He absolutely ran his race at Churchill. Its very evident from his last 4 races that he's a stone cold miler. His splits from the Derby are very similar to his Fla races.Fast early and slow late:
22.72 23.18 24.01 25.97 28.40
This horse is toast after a mile.It just so happens that in the FOY and the FLa derby he was in against some other slow closing horses.
If Bellamy can't snap back in 2 weeks-maybe Scrappy T is the way to go at a price.
