Lone Star on Monday is a good example of a track where the variant must have been changing all day. The day started with the sun shining, a light south wind, and the track fast. In the middle of the program a storm blew in and rain began to fall. Apparently expecting more rain (and they were right) the track maintenance crew appeared to seal the track. (At least they were dragging some sort of heavy sleds over it for some purpose.) The wind intensified out of the south. The next race was run under those conditions. Then two races later the wind abruptly switched to the north at probably 25 to 30 miles per hour but the rain stopped. The next race was run under those conditions. Then the wind turned back out of the south and was really blowing (probably more than 30 MPH). The next race was run under those conditions. Then the rain returned with a light wind out of the south. The next couple of races were run under those conditions. Then the rain stopped for the next couple of races and the wind continued to be light out of the south. This is Texas weather. LS kept the track listed as FAST through most of this and then downgraded it to GOOD late in the program. The turf races were run in the rain on a course listed as FIRM. I'm sure a day like this must present some challenges for the figure makers.
