Good foundation...5 week layoff...perhaps he needed the race...or perhaps he regressed (later on that).

The middle move in the Derby (e.g. SNOW CHIEF) the off race in the Derby (e.g. TABASCO CAT, LOUIS Q., HANSEL, PINE BLUFF) was once a nice angle play for the PREAKNESS. It usually indicated a regression after a tough prep, or lack of seasoning. In HIGH FLY's case, it definitely was not a lack of seasoning.

Perhaps he was due for a regression after the 2 1/2 point move forward to his new top in the Florida Derby, a top achieved via chasing a demanding pace. This was after his regression in the FOY.

Following HIGH FLY's pattern, including his 2 point regression from his impressive "2" in his first race, this guy may be in for a neg # in Baltimore.

Good Luck,
Joe B.
