Dave Litfin:
"GHOSTZAPPER may be perceived by some as vulnerable first time out this year, but has never lost in a layoff situation and has never lost at Belmont, where he made his '04 comeback Beyering 120 in a 7f sprint; fact that he returns in such a prestigious race speaks volumes about Frankel's confidence level."
O.K. all those things are true, but theres more than one way to skin a cat.
The Met Mile was NOT the initial target. There was an earlier race that Ghostsprinter missed because he was off. They found a sinus infection and drilled a hole in his head. Since then he's reported to have lost weight. Has he? Does it matter? Maybe all that matters is Bobby Frankel's confidence level? Hey, in regard to that the Bob said hes "a little nervous"! Maybe hes just funning us all again!
Additionally, this horse has run on the average of 3 times a year. His entire campaign last year was four races. We are not talking solid hickory here. This horse has issues, you're trusting Bob to get them right for race day is all.
Ghostsprinter has also changed his style for the routes. Hes suddenly found himself on the pace without dirt in his mouth. How is Mr. Sinus trouble gonna deal with eating sand again, cuz you know theres no way in hell hes outfooting most of these and if he tries to save that 2 hole at what cost? If hes the Ghostzapper of last year's sprints he wins this. If hes not that could be a very interesting hole and 2-5 or 3-5 would seem significantly short.
Bobby, can we get 5-2 like last time?
