Speaking of streaking barns, the annual Paraneck/Paragallo/ Pedersen 6 week blitz is in full bloom.

Last year, in November and December, the runners from this barn, wearing the faux Phipps black and red silks, struck at a rate of over 20%. Pedersen's final stats for 05 were 31 wins from 368 starts, meaning that for 10 months out of the year, she sent out winners at a 2-3% rate. To my cynical yet open mind there is only one explanation for this sort of streakiness, and it has nothing to do with the feed man or the farrier.

If I'm not mistaken, "injectibles" were found in a refrigerator in this barn by NYRA investigators (see Bloodhorse.com 3/4/05)... there can never be an "innocent" explanation for this. Soon after, Ernie Paragallo said he was getting out of the game, citing health reasons, kind of like the Michael Gill "leave me alone/give me the Eclipse or I'm getting out of the game" gambit.

The truth is that Paragallo sends out more starters than any other owner on the NYRA circuit, and as such will be given wide berth by the powers that be...
