Disrespectful, but in its own way, encouraging... (965 Views)

I noted with interest some actual discussion of figure making on the other board, some parts of which were relatively sophisticated. (Would that those that make the figures over there had as much understanding of the issues, or be as willing to discuss them). Just a couple of quick points, since I have covered much of the relevant stuff many times before:

1-- I know that at least 2 of the 3 of you have read "Changing Track Speeds" on this site, and seen the comments from the scientists that have studied the physical properties (like energy return, or track speed) of actual racetracks.

Simple yes or no question-- with that in mind, do you think it is safe to make the ASSUMPTION that the track stays the same speed without major weather changes, as Ragozin states in his book?

We'll leave the discussion of the ramifications of the answer until later (or never, depending on whether I get answers, or decide to spend the time on this), but let's just get a straight answer to that one for starters. Of the three of you, I predict one will answer, one will evade (he's as intellectually dishonest as the Bush administration defense of domestic spying without a warrant), and one will not understand the question or the relevance. But we'll see.

2-- Razz, there was no question that you (of the comments accusing me of taking a one sided position) would a) not be bright enough to participate in that discussion, and b) would still find something insulting (and false) to say.

3-- Regarding the Lindbergh baby (the Stevens/buzzer comments)-- a) if I thought anybody was taking them seriously I would have deleted them, b) as I made clear years ago, right here, that guy is a part time employee (that I have met once in my life), and c) given that the source of the outrage has lied about me and defamed me publicly, oh, several hundred times, his moral outrage is pretty amusing. "Nutjobs on the internet", indeed.

4-- Cube of the rhetorical questions-- George is George White, former president of the Racing Times, founder of the data base that Equibase, DRF and everyone in the industry is using, etc. He has accomplished 10 times as much in this industry as you and your anonymous friends combined.

But in answer to one issue you raised-- we do a ROTW, there are now almost 10 years of them on our site. We make picks, giving a specific betting strategy, for several tracks daily, AND LET THE PUBLIC SEE THEM FOR FREE THE NEXT DAY. Ragozin does none of this, they believe the less you know, the less they can be judged by, the better. Furthermore, at the Vegas Expo, I challenged Friedman (for at least the tenth time) and Andy to a 6 month handicapping contest (ask Janis, he/she was there). He utterd not a peep, again.

5-- CH-- whos figures do you use? Janis-- who is the best handicapper you know, and whos figures does he use?

That will do for starters. I have to take a blind cat to the vet, I'll check in later.
