I know it’s become fashionable to handicap the Kentucky Derby as a totally unique event. However I do not forget that it’s a still a 10 furlong race for 3YO’s in which one must also consider a few extra variables such as the often wild pace, size of the field, and unknown ability of most of the entrants at this precise distance, etc. That does that mean that I throw out all the considerable amount of information there is to apply from races in general. Isn’t that how ANY race should be approached? With basic sound general handicapping principles with consideration for the factors that make it unique.
